Just to clarify a few things. There are quite a lot of incorrect posts on this thread...

1. This is a soft limiter, which will be mandated on all new EU vehicles built from 2022 onwards.

2. The soft limiter will "bong" at you, if you break the speed limit.

3. You can override that soft limiter, by pushing hard on the gas-pedal. You can still do 150mph in a 70mph zone (on a private road).

4. Big EU trucks already have semi-hard limiters in 2019, stopping them going above 56mph. This is law, today. Right now.

5. Some speculate this will be followed by the introduction of hard limiters circa 2032. It will eliminate speeding and fun.

6. Perhaps, now, you can understand why Brexit UK wants to unpeel the tentacles of the EU vampire squid that sucks the joy and cash from your everyday life

How typical. "We're going to put 'speed limiters' on because some member states want this, but we won't make them actually limit speed because doing so would make other member states mad. We cannot afford another country wanting to leave the EU, so we are not going to piss any of them off for a while. But we still feel the need to make new laws."

EU "creep" is why so many folks want to Brexit.

Step by step, over-controlling everything.

It is always the same playbook -- introduce a "soft" law, followed by a "hard" law several years later.

A classic strategy of "boiling the frog".

We can only go off of articles written, which are usually unreliable.

Appreciate the better info.
