Escort Max 360 (athermic windshield?)

I tested my new Escort Max360 out on the road this weekend driving up the 101 to SLO, there are usually at least 4-5 speed traps with laser and KA along the way.

Of course being the idiot I am I forgot my Evoque has athermic glass which means nothing gets through it...gps, laser, radar, etc. In fact it's so bad my phone can't regularly pick up gps and maps unless I have the moonroof completely open (and even then). Also my Evoque didn't come with any clear patches on the windshield.

Anyways of course the test didn't go so well. By the time the radar was blaring I was already right on the radar source, it completely ignored a laser shooting straight at me as well. On the way back I tested my V1 and the same thing, pretty much no signal in the car regardless of source. SOOO....inclusive. Mostly I was annoyed at this plastic-y sound my 360 kept making when mounted on the windshield due to the way it mounts.

Our 4C's don't have athermic windows I assume correct? Haven't read anyone talk about terrible radar detector performance...hate to have to install an exterior system with shifters and all that. :smile2:

Be thankful you can have your conversation. Detectors have been outlawed for over 25 years in our part of the world. We just rely on intuition. It's very much a case of pick your moment if you're going to be naughty. Can't imagine a windscreen as thin as the 4C's is able to filter any microwaves, though that's only a guess. No one has commented on 'failed' detectors so far.

In the US and particularly in California the WAZE app does a great job sussing out where speed traps and where red light cameras are. I didn't know anyone still used radar detectors, my V1 has been in the garage for years collecting dust.

(side note) The internet radio on the Parrot picks up police scanner channels, I found the LA county Sheriff and the Ventura County Sheriff on there.

Waze in combo with a detector is pretty awesome. The police locations though are hit and miss sometimes as they might be moving in the opposite lane or the CHP are moving on the highway. I do drive on the 5 and the 101 a lot, and both have lots and lots of Ka band radar and laser. Also up in the canyons I come across a lot of Ka - V1 has been very very helpful through the years. Still debating on if I am keeping the Max360 or not.

Just a quick update...I've decided to keep the Max360. The deciding factor was the built in GPS that records all the false alarms so you never hear them again (if you pass the same signal 3 times it does this automagically) - you can do the same I believe running the V1 with the bluetooth attachment and the V1 app, but this is far cleaner just to have it one device. Trying to figure out where I will mount it permanently, will do that when I get the audio installed in the car and will post pics :)
