This turn was no lift on the throttle. F1 TV is horrible at conveying speed during the race, but gems like this pop up.

I didn't have a car for the weekend... maybe next time.

They didn't have any Alfa merch until Sunday race day... but once they came out, they were selling fast! especially kimi's alfa hat

Re: Giovanazzi had damaged car

"Antonio Giovinazzi's Australian Grand Prix was compromised by two pieces of damage to his Alfa Romeo Formula 1 car.

The F1 returnee sustained the floor damage at the start when he ran over debris from Daniel Ricciardo's Renault, and then at Turn 9 on the opening lap he had contact with the McLaren of Carlos Sainz Jr that damaged the front wing.

Thereafter Giovinazzi struggled for pace, and ended up holding up a train of cars while running until lap 27 of 58 for his first pitstop.

He lost another five seconds at his pitstop while the team made adjustments to balance the car..."

Yes, I heard this in the post-race commentary already.
Perhaps true. Or excuses.
He might have been more effective at blocking by parking his car across the track sideways and going home, though.

He should have been blue flagged. If he couldn't keep up the pace, he had no business holding up a train of cars lap after lap when he had no chance of pulling away on them. It would be different if he was keeping up with them for some of the track, but they were just piling up behind him and once one got by they never saw each other again.
I think stewards were lenient being the first race. It might not have affected the points anyway.

Blue flags?!! NO NO NO! Wow, are we on different pages.

Blue flags are for cars about to be lapped or who have been lapped (and some hate blue flags even then).

GIO had a right, by rule, to defend, and defending is what he did, to the letter of the rules. He always moved once, never violently, and never under braking where moving would have forced anyone off track or into danger.

If we're blue flagging people racing for positions, the whole sport is over. It's possible, and it's been done before, that you fight off someone so long they trash their tires, overheat their engine, drain the ERS or run out of time.

During this F1 break, enjoy this clip, and watch to ending. Better lines = priceless.

Magic!

Those kind of dogfights make the sport amazing for almost every lap.

(And, Hell hath no fury like Michael Schumacher when he’s been passed).

Today, you get passed and it's over. You don't get to fight back on driving ability. Today, a duel is over once you're passed.

There just are no true dogfights now, as you put it, @4Canada . Gain slowly; pass under DRS, then get away. No real slugfests.

BREAKING (not braking) NEWS:

Ferrari power unit cooling problems, which contributed to more-restrictive-than-planned engine modes, have not been rectified with a new coolant type and initial (minor) tweaks, and will require repositioning of the radiators, more in line with last year's car (which is a step backwards in chassis balance and drag). The forecasted upgrade date is early June at Grand Prix of Canada. Canada GP is round 8, and 1/3 of the season will have been compromised.

Haas was affected as packaging was essentially the same as Ferrari. Ferrari cooling problems affect the Scuderia and Haas F1.

In retrospect, AR was NOT affected by cooling, but experienced some loss of engine modes based on what was recommended by Ferrari. AR packaging is more conservative, and they should not have cooling issues going forward and should have autonomy with engine modes now (vs. need to be following engine supplier recommendations), as cooling issue is total car design and not power unit design.

There is no grid penalty for repacking radiators or cooling bits, etc.

Well that sucks.
What's odd though, is that HAAS still seems to be at least the 4th fastest team, if not the 3rd because they were neck and neck with Red Bull.

I think Ferrari should just go for it, and if shit goes boom, so be it.
