Hey guys, can anyone confirm Alfa is having trouble supplying windshield replacements? My car's been sitting and waiting ... and waiting ... and waiting...
Thankfully it's winter and roads are ice and salt most of the time, but still, how hard can it be to get a replacement windshield???
Can any of the resident dealers check with their parts department and find out please?
Yeah, crack, pretty bad, off the car now, waiting for replacement. No photos, sorry. Not sure how those details would help with getting it replaced, but thanks for chiming in. 0
Windscreens are available in Italy so it is either your dealer being an ass or your insurance company not wanting to pay the $1200 it costs and trying to get an aftermarket part.

It's simple things like this that will deter people from buying AR vehicles - I know our cars a somewhat a 'specialty' but over a month for a windshield is unacceptable.
We were originally offered "glass insurance" by the dealer which we took as it was about the same cost as a normal insurance deductible. It was supposed to cover the deductible and guarantee an OEM windshield replacement with unlimited usage.
A few months later we got a check for the cost of the insurance with a note saying that they could not offer the policy on the 4C. I still don't know if it was cost or availability that scared them out of offering this policy.
Hmm. Almost. I do have a tiny chip in the center. But the rear view mirror blocks it from my view. I can get a new windshield for my truck (the ugly old truck) for less than $200 and it's much bigger. Think I'll wait till the price drops and the availability is better (and the need it greater). Don't forget that you can have glass custom made.
I noticed a small chip on the driver's side of my windshield in the center. It's tiny, like tip of a pen tiny, and probably has no chance of worsening. It's been there a few weeks and look the same.
But I'm wondering if it's worth it to get my insurance to have it epoxy filled. There's no deductible on my insurance for windshield repair work.
On Discovery Channel (or whatever channel it was on), the program showing how the 4C it's made, they've mentioned the Windscreen being lighter (they shaved something of it) than regular windscreens.
Maybe that's what makes it more expensive than normal/bigger windscreens.
This is very frustrating though and it sucks you have to deal with it, winter or not.
There's a lot of debris/rocks on the roads here in NC. I've had to have the windshield replaced on every single car I've owned in the 11 years I've lived here now. I've even replaced the windshield on one of my previous cars twice in the 5 years I had it. If I get stuck with a cracked windshield that I can't get replaced for months, I'm going to be pretty infuriatingly mad.
Coincidentally...this happened to my Explorer just this morning on my drive to the office. It barely missed my windshield and instead cracked the plastic A-pillar cover. I just had this windshield replaced less than 6 months ago and in the process, they installed new A-pillar covers too.
Found a replacement on Amazon Prime for $107. Beats replacing the windshield again, but still more money I've got to spend due to rocks in the road. Just glad I wasn't driving the 4C this morning.
If prospective Alfa purchasers are doing 'new car' research they are bound to come across this forum - if I read the manufacturer couldn't even source a windshield I wouldn't even consider that brand.

The part number is 68239466AA. The only place in the county that has one is Alfa Romeo/Fiat of LA. Coupe and Spider seem to be the same part number. If in fact it is only in Italy it would take 6-8 weeks to receive. None of the PDC's here in the states show as having one at this time.

Call them and ask if they have the glass in stock. Then read somebody the riot-act about why they can't get that shipped out.
When I crashed my 4C, they got parts from all over. My parts looked in his computer and said, "There's a fender in Florida and a control arm in Texas and something in Italy." He made some calls to confirm this and had it all shipped to us.
Front window is one of the things that a car company can expect to have to have in stock as they are prone to damage (I have had one broken and one chipped in the last three years on my daily driver) and driving the car with a broken window is not a good idea..in fact in most states if cracked and in the drivers field of view the car can't be driven without getting a ticket. Most people can't deal with having a car out of action for a couple of months so I would think it is ALFA USA's responsibility to stock something as important as this to have a few ready for rapid delivery. This is the type of thinking that will make or break ALFA in the US.
They are refusing to ship that one from California to me because they're afraid it'll get damaged in transition. Apparently they've had a few break before. Spent another half hour with Alfa on the phone today in the morning, more niceties, apologies and promises of follow up, yet no concrete information, NOTHING.
Haven't heard back from Mopar either, other than the initial confirmation email that they received my inquiry.
Terrible.
