Getting to know my 4C

After a few days driving I'm becoming familiar with the new person in my life. You soon realize she is a different car to what you are used to.

1)I did a 3 point turn in standing traffic, no power steering so was quite difficult and judging the kerbs was a worry but it was a wide road, people enjoyed seeing the different angles of the car.
2)People often give a thumbs up, especially if I give way, never had it so often in my G.
3)Boot is a two handed job so have to put shopping in front well, then open boot then fetch shopping.
4)Don't park near high kerbs or banking, you can't open door.
5)The backs of my trousers get the dirt off the door cills.
6)To get in, left leg first then physically pull your right leg in.
7)Fuel consumption much better than my G 1750 tbi
8)My eyes can clearly see the speed I'm doing, so great having huge numbers, my eyes aren't great for close up work
9)Driving along roads lined either side with tall buildings and the windows down is fantastic.

Life is short so I bought a 4C

Good notes...here is another:
handling because of the mid engine and light car is more "immediate". A heavy car with weight located more at either the front or rear is slower reacting and perhaps a bit forgiving. The setup of a car like ours demands attention but rewards with "toss ability". The torque of our engines is strong so that also contributes to fast direction input changes at same time as heavy throttle. In short...it is a very rewarding car but be careful so it doesn't bite you.

I like your idea of creating a list of characteristics and peculiarities of the 4C. Those might be useful for those considering becoming owners.

Oh ... I put my right leg in first than pull the left in...... US car..... At least we in the US don't have to deal with a gear shift lever on the wrong side of the car since the 4C doesn't have one ;-)

Wow, the 4C has got a grip on me

Went to my job today (I'm self employed/business owner) and got on so well at the customer's house, worked twice as fast to get back home early so as to take the 4C out for a drive. This car is addictive, hoipefully tomorrow I'll be home early to go for another drive. And I feel so much happier, life was becoming quite dull before I got the car, a bit depressing working hard in my business and not getting much in reward. The 4C is the best thing to happen in a long long while.

Roll on the lighter nights and summer!!

I know that feeling- I’m a self employed builder and just having the 4c makes me happy and when I drive it, it leaves me buzzing- had some great cars, but nothing like this.!!

Jim, good to hear you love the 4C too, I'm in glazing, lots of heavy lifting and out in the cold, so I know how you feel, the 4C is a little bit of escapism and reward.

Does anyone else worry about the noise of small debris picked up by the tyres and hitting the underside of wheel arches? It sound more amplified I guess because of the carbon tub. Today I was accelerating and it sounded like a metallic item was picked up and it rattled the underside for a second. So long as the bodywork isn't hurt and the arches are lined (?) I'm ok .

Also what's the red led light which was shining at my face from the right side top of dash?

LED is likely something security system related - from a small disk stuck to the windscreen?

As for stones, check out these front wheel stone guards from Inokinetic:
https://www.inokinetic.com/alfa/4chipgard

They won't stop the process, but reduce the chances of those rocks hitting the painted sills of your car.

Yes, any noise of things bouncing off the underside of the tub gets amplified inside. That's one of the joys of having no noise deadening insulation in your car!

They look great, are they easy to put on and do you think they would ship to the uk?

You wait until you drive it down a gravel drive..... it's like a scene out of Black Hawk Down!

Yes easy to install - simpler if you can pull a front wheel but not strictly necessary.
First one takes 45 minutes to do, the second one about 10.
There's a thread or two on this here, but I can't put my finger on it.
Comes with good instructions.

And I'm sure that they would ship to the UK.
