Has @AlfaRomeoCares addressed this bolt tightening lunacy? The cost spread seems to be $800 - $1,800. Maybe wider?

I have never owned a car (including exotics) where the cost of a standard maintenance service is seemingly so arbitrary and capricious.

I understand and have no issue with some variation in labor rates. "Some" variation. Not 100+ percent variation.

I would like to know the "official" AR shop manual labor time for this service. Knowing the allowed time would help keep dealers honest. And they do need our help in this area.

When combined with other services that require belly pan removal, we should be paying for one removal, not two or three, which is how I expect they build the tab. And, we should not be paying for guys who take twice as long to do a job, because they have no experience. Learning the task is a dealer cost, not a customer cost.

I need my first oil change for my 4C and called the 2 closest dealers in my area (South Florida).

Alfa Romeo/Fiat in West Palm Beach quoted me at $150 plus tax.

Alfa Romeo/Maserati in Davie quoted me $260 plus tax.

Just curious: Are the threads stripped so it won't back out? Or is the head stripped? If the head, dremel a groove into it deep enough for a large standard screwdriver. Many oil plugs are much softer than the pan, so that the plug strips first.

Not sure yet. Iíll get it up on a friends lift tomorrow. I believe itís just the head. The service department said they put a bolt extractor on it with a 2 foot cheater and could not budge it. Iíll try a careful application of heat around the bolt and see how it goes. Otherwise Iíll drill and install a timesert.

Yikes. Jeeze... yeah, leave it if you can.

I switched to topside oil changes on one car, because the oil plugs are crap. Gets all the oil out and I wind up doing it more often, but a drain/petcock through the plug is fine too.

Good luck

Good news. Was a cinch. Got it on a lift; removed the threads from a 3/4” nut and my buddy tack welded it on the striped drain plug. Wrenched and it came off no problem. $1500 back in my pocket.
