I looked a the John Player version like this to buy back when they were sold in the US. Two things about it scared me....the pedal distance between gas and brake was tiny and pedal box offset. I think you would have to wear ballet slippers to enable one to hit one pedal and not the other at the same time.The other thing....they used a center backbone for everything so not much side impact protection...mostly fiberglass panel. Perhaps your description of it as a racing hearse was accurate. These were light and nimble....there was plenty of aftermarket support for Ford Cosworth engines so could be a good autccross car.I called this Lotus the racing hearse. It was insanely fast at autocross.
