Australian 4C Servicing Costs

Hi fellow Aussie 4C owners. I thought it might be handy to start a thread where we can compare servicing costs to help us make sure we're all getting a reasonable deal from our service centres.

My car is with the dealer today to have a suspension noise looked at so I asked how much to get the oil and filter changed while it's up on the hoist. I was quoted $330, and they didn't have the parts in stock anyway so I'm not getting it done. Apparently the oil is $90, filter is $60 and washer/gasket is $20 (presumably pre-GST), and then add about an hour's labour. That still sounds excessive to me - about $140 for an hour of labour!

Anyone else had an oil and filter change done? If so, how much were you charged?

Good idea, My car is back at the dealership today getting seat adjusted so I will ask for a quote
they better not charge for that.. that's like 4 bolts

Firstly, good thread, thanks Mateus. Well my dealer wanted the car in at 1000km or 1 month so I've booked it in next week, but I don't know what that actually involves, or even the price. Is this 1000km "service" required or just a dealer "special"?

Bit of a worry if the Alfa service centre doesn't have the parts for an oil change on hand... hopefully that will change in the future, but I would have thought these would be in common with the Guiletta QV (1750 TBI)?
Mine is the only 4C in Newcastle at this stage (as far as I know), so I suspect they won't be holding a lot of stock on hand. To be fair though, I only asked about the oil change this morning on the spur of the moment. If my car was pre-booked for an oil change I'm sure they would have made sure they had the parts on hand. I'm not sure if the filter is common with the Guiletta QV...

I don't believe the 1000km service is required. I asked my dealer specifically about this and he said the first required service is at 15000km. However, if they are offering to do it for free then I'd go for it, especially if they are going to change the oil and filter! However, it might just be a check of the integrity of the CF tub and bolts. They checked mine today (and all was well).

As an aside, in case anyone needs to know, the rubber seal for the false bonnet, which I found out today is supposed to be replaced every time the bonnet is lifted, costs about $300. Beware of this if you get the front of your 4C wrapped and the installer removes the bonnet (as they did with mine).

I did the first service at 2,500 kms back in June.

Labour $72.34 (inc fitting 2 silver indicator globes that I supplied)
Oil Filter $56.27
Plug $6.26
Oil $84.23
Sealing Gasket $16.65
TOTAL: $235.75 + GST = $259.33

Also checked out a rattle in from the pedal box area, which they found, but needed the car another time to solve it.

Yes, the recommended service is at 15,000kms but the dealer suggested one earlier. It sounded optional but I've always done at minimum an oil change on all my new cars, so I was not fussed.

that's not to bad.
Yeah, that's $70 less than I was quoted for an oil change. I might tell my service manager to sharpen his pencil...
Rattle in pedal box sounds familiar... I suspect mine is coming from the dead pedal...

It's an irregular "tinkle" "tinkle" at constant speed. Most annoying on freeways, but doesn't occur in start/stop traffic.
Does it stop if your left foot is on the dead pedal? I suspect that is where my noise is coming from

Cheers,
AP

Hi,

Mines in for its first service today... Quote from a lower nor shore dealer, $690.00... From the upper north shore $350... I wonder where I went... I will see what it actually costs when I get the bill!

Cheers,
Ap
Even the $690 quote is lower than I was expecting for the 15K service acp. I was quoted over $300 for an oil change alone...
Hmmm.... More fun... Update probably Saturday... The 4c is special!
As an update, I dropped he car off on Thursday morning... I still don't have it back... :-(
Why not acp? Have they found a problem?

Sorry to hear. Let's hope your tech hasn't taken an early Christmas break. Seriously, I hope it's just some fiddley little thing like having the oil changed and not having an oil filter.... Any idea what's causing the holdup?
It is meant to be a lack of an oil filter... Which boggles my mind...
Lucky guess. Some things just never change.....How hard is it for them to keep regular service items in stock?...Hopeless!
Well... I got the bill, $730... After a bit of "negotiation" it was lowered but not to the quote... Not exactly happy... Car is back home though...

Next time I will get the quote in writing... I also need to take the lead technician for a drive and try reproducing the challenges...

At least they fixed a couple of the problems... The dead pedal is ok, and the lhs front wheel well should be secured(a couple of screws fell out/were missing)... Also the missing retaining screw for the passenger carpet will be sorted...

I might go for a drive tomorrow to castle hill and pick up an oil filter to minimise the risk of another delay next time...

4hrs of labour for an oil change... At $100+ per hr... Ouch...

Anyways she is back now, might go for a drive... To Qld and back...

Cheers,
Ap
