Australian 4C Servicing Costs

22492 Views 166 Replies 30 Participants Last post by  Alf Alpha
Hi fellow Aussie 4C owners. I thought it might be handy to start a thread where we can compare servicing costs to help us make sure we're all getting a reasonable deal from our service centres.

My car is with the dealer today to have a suspension noise looked at so I asked how much to get the oil and filter changed while it's up on the hoist. I was quoted $330, and they didn't have the parts in stock anyway so I'm not getting it done. Apparently the oil is $90, filter is $60 and washer/gasket is $20 (presumably pre-GST), and then add about an hour's labour. That still sounds excessive to me - about $140 for an hour of labour!

Anyone else had an oil and filter change done? If so, how much were you charged?

Chimera go and see Vic at Scuderia Cavallino in Five Dock. He has the 4C platform down pat and yes he had done the bolt tightening on my car.
He is very reasonable and I can assure you won’t get raped like a dealership.
I personally like to interact with the mechanic compared to some blonde bimbo behind a desk relating messages to some technician.
Building relationships and supporting small business is a win win situation in my book anyway.
PS. If you like red wine buy a bottle or case.
His old man gets skins from South Australia at 7 bucks a bottle and he has loads in his office.
Bloody awesome drop and preservative free.
So far I have bought 4 cases🙂🙃

Knieval.
No! No! Not automoda
He is behind the old rta office running parallel with the canal on Ramsay Rd.
Contact Vic on 0420355430 and tell him Mark referred you.
He doesn’t have a website and the whole marketing shebang but this mechanic is Ferrari trained and meticulous with his work and passion.
I am totally at ease leaving my mistress in his capable hands
I am getting no kick back but can’t speak highly of this saviour.

Having fallen out with the stealership that I bought my 4C Spider from, I too have been going to Vic and Sam at Scuderia Cavallino for three years now and I am very satisfied with their work and prices. They have a real affinity for the top Italian marques.
You get to talk with the guys doing the work and they listen to what you ask from them.
They also have a great coffee machine and are happy for you to enjoy a coffee or two.
They hate the idea of a future filled with EV's and you will often see classic Italian cars (Lambo's Fezza's Mazzers and Alfa's) in their workshop.
These guys are genuine petrol heads and will look after you and your 4C with pride in their work. They actually love working on the types of cars they service and are equally at home working on the spanners and laptop PC.
Full disclosure - I'm not an Insta Influencer & I'm not on their payroll, I just like what these guys do.
They have done minor services, bolt tightening and cam belt services on my 4C and have done a great job every time at a reasonable price. They even got rid of a squeak that the stealership had been unable to eradicate on two services.
Go for the coffee and wine, stay for the service you get - your 4C will thank you.
Cheers,
Alf.

@chimera, from page114 in the document linked below it has all the fastener positions located in diagrams with the screw or bolt sizes and torques. It might help.

I’m pretty sure I have a list of the major mechanical fasteners you are referring to that should be checked regularly. I just have to find it.
Thanks Alfanut, Vic sorted me out this week and did the bolt tightening, no dramas at all and once again great service and attention to detail. I didn’t get a chance to chat about wine as I had to run but would like to later on.

Just had my 6th year annual service (90,000km but I’ve done only 36,600km)…Diagnostics checked as all good, Gearbox oil changed, TCT hydraulic fluid changed, clutch recalibration done, engine oil and filter (supplied), engine oil sample taken, air filter swapped out (supplied), no spark plugs changed, no brake fluid changed….Did no real track time last year and will do little in the coming year until the Intraxes are fitted and sorted. $700 in labour, $200 in Petronas Tutela gear and hydraulic oil and $90 in GST. Got out of it for $1grand. Pretty happy.

Due to contracting Covid, the guy who I was arranging was unavailable to do my service after waiting 3 weeks for a spare weekend slot (just bad luck). I went back to my Dealership at Parramatta (Camelia). They have one 4C trained tech (Josh) replacing my old trusted tech. There was a delay in having my car looked at but I insisted there was no rush. Happy with what was done. They didn’t argue about things I wanted omitted from the service. Happy with the result.

Wow! I’ve just been charged $930 from McCarrolls for a standard service 😳
Unfortunately need the factory to assess a defect in the tub so had to take it to a dealership. After this I think I’m going to check out Cavalino

It finally happened. I was talking with a fellow Alfista yesterday on our AROCA drive and was told that Parramatta no longer services Alfas. I was sceptical (as always) and gave them a call today. It’s true. Really disappointing as one of their 4C Alfa-trained techs still works there and I’ve never had any issue with them with the 4C. I’m now on the hunt for somewhere to have Rosie serviced. Luckily there are a few decent options in our fair city. The only problem is they are not nearly as conveniently located. 😢

I saw that coming Jim.
Don’t need me to convince ya where to give Rosie the TLC

@chimera. It’s been a while since you been off the radar. You still have your 4C?

I can at least say I gave them and Alfa Oz more loyalty than they gave me. How can Alfa be successful if there’s only one dealer in town. Who is going to want to travel 50km on a week day morning to drop off their car fora service and repeat the process in reverse to pick the car up?

I understand where you are coming from but loyalty does not exist in todays world.
I learnt that very early as a business owner.
My back pocket is my loyalty. Lol!

There are some good people at my now ex-service centre. I feel sorry for them that they will no longer see cars like the 4C to work on. They always did what was requested and I never had to return the 4C because something was missed. I was apologised to and felt they were sincere when they said they were sorry to lose a loyal customer. They just no longer have any link to Alfa systems nor are they able to order any parts from Alfa, so I was told. A sad state of affairs. Time to have a talk with Vic.

You won't regret it - Sam and Vic go the extra mile to make sure you are happy with your 4C.
They are close enough to the train station for you to not have to worry about the pick-up and drop off (or you can use the bus too if you don't fancy walking).

For those in Perth, I go to Cileberti Motors in Osborne Park. My last minor service was $420 vs $890 quoted by Barbagello. The guys at Cileberti are awesome.
