Hey guys!

I hope all is going well.
A couple of days ago, I had the opportunity to test drive 2 different Alfa Romeo 4C Spiders before buying one. Now as you can understand, choosing 1 out of 2 is always the hardest decision, and I could really use some help from known owners like yourself. It will be my first own car : ) Both are new at the dealer. Let me break down the cars and driving experience so you will understand the choice I need to make. After explaining the cars, I will break down my situation and preference, and I will ask you a couple of questions which I would really like to know your opinion on.

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Launch Edition (EDIT: Turned out NOT to be a launch edition. My bad):

Specs:

1 This one was build in 2017
2 It had 3500km, was only used by the dealer for "marketing purpose".
3 It is a launch edition with the spider lamps.
4 Color outside: Yellow
5 Color interior: Black chairs, yellow stitching, and yellow finishing touch.
6 Carbon mirrors.
7 No warranty anymore (Or half a year, not sure)
8 A small issue, 1 rim is a little damaged.

How did it drive:
It was great how this Alfa was driving, a real experience like always. However, we noticed that a lot of time we heard and felt that the tires were losing grip, and we heard them sizzling on the road. This never happened back in LA when I drove a 4C Spider for a month, so this was new. We didn't even use launch control. (Weather difference: LA is normally at 20+ degrees when where I live in Holland, the temperature is normally around 10 degrees. Road difference: Asphalt is different too. Car difference: 4Cs in the US are 100kg heavier than in Holland). The dealer explained this in the following way: "The tires of the car were a bit cupped for standing still too long. Because of the tires that have a little cup form, it can slip sometimes when you are accelerating too fast". I can confirm that I saw cobweb beneath the car, so they don't take it out daily I guess. We still think this is hard to believe, but I am not an expert.

Price: This comes at a price of €74,845

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider 2019:

Specs:

1 Build in 2019
2 It had 150km, and after our test drive, 200km ^^
3 Color outside: Bianco Madreperla (It was done at the factory for another €3,500 according to the dealer)
4 Color interior: The chairs are tobacco leather (Worth €2200 according to the dealer) and signatures are also tobacco. Compared to the yellow one, this one doesn't have stitching in the dashboard.
5 It still has 4,5 years of warranty. For parts and labor, on things like the engine, gearbox, etc.
6 Everything is brand new. I've seen no traces of usage.

Driving experience:
This one was nice too, but I noticed that we couldn't put it in Dynamic. I also had the idea that it was driving a lot softer than the one we previously drove, the yellow launch edition. Although the yellow one was in dynamic mode. I am a little afraid that this is permanent as in the 4C from LA I didn't notice that much of a difference between normal and dynamic mode. But it could have to do with that this one only had 200km on it, no dynamic mode, and that I already had wasted most of my adrenaline on the previous test drive lol (Not sure tho). However, also here, we noticed that the tires were slipping and sizzling a bit. Again, this was something I didn't expect. Could this be cupped tires again, as the car only had 150km for 6 months at the dealer? I don't know, I am not such a specialist...

Although they claimed that the original price with all options was €95.555,- (List price €87.560, Bianco Madreperia €3500, Chairs with tobacco leather €2200, Super Leggera Titanio LM Rims €1675, Rosso brakes €395), the resell price is different.

Resell price: €74.900

For what purpose will the car be and what are my preferences?
1 First of all, I wanted a shiny black one. But unfortunately, those aren't available within The Netherlands, Belgium or Germany (Yes they are, but not with the rims I prefer. You know, the savage Super Leggera Titanio LM ones from the pics(; ) Meaning I am planning to make the outside shiny black.
2 I will use it as my daily, as it will be my only car and I'm 23 years old. I work from home, so I will also use it just to go outside and enjoy a nice drive or to go places!
3 I drive around 14,000 KM a year (Without Corona, lol)
4 Not planning to do drag racing/taking it onto a race track more than once a year (Or less).
5 Right now I'm thinking to keep the car for 1,5 to 2,5 years. But this could change when my emotional value increases, something I can't discard with this amazing car hehe.

So my questions to you as an owner if you know my situation:
1 Which one would you buy and why?
2 Will the 2019 4C be just as raw as the LE that had 3500KM when I use it more often?
3 Should I choose the warranty over the Launch Edition?
4 If I want to make it black, should I wrap or paint it? (I heard bad stories of shiny wrap that didn't make it fully black but rather a little orange. On the other hand, I heard that painting the car would make it lose its value).
5 If I am about to make the car black, which interior would fit better: Yellow or tobacco?

This would help massively with my decision. Thanks so much!

Hi Tom,

Sorry this got held up in the approvals queue for a while - likely because you are new and it is long with embedded images.

Shouldn't happen again, but the forum software does weird things sometimes!

I haven't read the post yet, but the cars look amazing! I have to admit to being in love with the tan leather!

Do you have the list of options for both? It's possible the yellow one has the track package (firmer suspension) and the white one does not.

Flat spotted tires is very possible on the yellow since it's been sitting for awhile. Also, regarding the rims, why don't you buy the color that you like then switch out the rims?

All good, thanks for the quick support!!

My personal preference also tend a bit more to the tobacco leather, as that should fit better to black ^^

The yellow one isn't a track edition if I'm correct. But I will double check this to be correct!

And to be honest, wrapping/painting a car seems easier and cheaper than getting that specific rims, as I haven't seemed them except on 4Cs. (Correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't digged into this much)

There will be no difference in performance once you have 250-300 km as the Dymamic mode will unlock. The Madreperla white with Tabacco is unusual and looks very nice.
I personally would go for this one over the yellow LE.

Looks like the dutch 4C are A LOT expensiver compared to Belgium. Mine was about 75 k new with additional 20k discount.... o_O (also was a showroom one with less than 200 km on it and 0.5 years old) (y)

BTW 3th option  fully carbon loaded track edition

So, did you pay €55k new for a spider with the same rims and 200km?? Damn that is a very good deal. Enjoy it!!

And yes I saw it, but that one is 15,000€ more, and I tried to get my hands on it, but it was already sold :( Exactly the model I was looking for tho!

I would definitely go for the White / tobacco one. Brand new, will drive the same or better once you put enough miles on it (dynamic is restricted for the first 500 miles or so), no wear, more warranty, same price. I would wrap it black, and enjoy the heck out of it. You could probably find some red seats if that suits your color scheme better on the used market, but I think the tobacco would go well with a black exterior. Prices on both seem steep, but I understand that is the way they go there. Welcome!

I LOVE the tobacco leather. Warranty is nice, too. Dynamic should unlock soon, I think in North America versions it was at 200 miles. I see you're going to check the suspension options, that was my first thought that one might have track pack. And the tire noise could be the difference in asphalt surface from there to LA. Try a different brand of tires when these wear out and see if that helps. Of these two, for roughly the same price, I'd go with the white. Though I hadn't heard of a Launch Edition spider before this. Is that official naming from the factory?

I also think it would be easier to swap rims than to wrap a car (20 bolts vs hours of wrestling with the plastic) if you can find a black one. The swapped wheels would probably last longer than the wrap, too. And not risk damaging paint when removing. I bought an extra set of the 5 hole wheels for my Launch Edition and have swapped them a number of times with no issues.

Thanks for sharing your opinion on it :) What is track pack and is there a big difference in if there are different suspension options and a track pack? And wow, thanks for the question! I have seen people saying that only Launch Edition has the spider eye lamps on it, but I realize that a lot of launch editions didn't have those lamps when I look on YouTube. Now I see that a launch edition has a batch "Launch Edition" in the car beneath the hand brake, which the yellow car didn't have. In other words, I am doubting that it is actually a launch edition...

And I won't be doing the wrapping myself, I will look for another company to do this. But holy cow!! Rims are only 2k, when wrapping will be 4k. However, now that I realize this, I can't find a black spider with the wrong rims around Belgium of The Netherlands. I think I'm going to stick to the white one with a nice wrap! (It will be a very high-end wrap as well I think)
