As of 4/17/2023 - the group buy remains open to new orders. Nothing has changed from the original Group Buy and orders happen every month. Please PM me if interested in ordering.

Updates:

If new to this thread - the relevant info is in Post 1 (this one) and then starts again HERE

EDIT -
Please PM me Name, Address, Email, phone #, Wheel Color and size. I am not sending this information immediately but some updates may come over email (I think we have many people on here that don't check the forum often).

Where we are:

So, essentially what started as a set of these wheels for myself and one for someone else developed into a group buy opportunity. ~6 months and discussions with two dozen suppliers, factories, etc. I think we've cracked it.

The Wheels:

Sample Set Inbound:

Furniture Rim Silver Bicycle part Nickel

Furniture Rim Bicycle part Spoke Silver

Circuit component Cylinder Gas Cable Nickel

Styles:

Gabriella:

Stefania:

Tekla:

Wheel Specs

Wheels are fully forged 6061 Aluminum using a 12k lb press (research other wheels, this is the high end of "best practice" IMHO).

17 x 8 et 30 front
18 x 9.5 et 31 rear

OR

18 x 8 et 30 front
19 x 9.5 et 31 rear

Or

19 x 8 et 30 front
20 x 9.5 et 31 rear

This works out to ~16mm spacer front and ~31mm spacer rear, gives a really nice flush aesthetic.

Weight

The weight in green is the complete, painted wheel on a scale - I left the modeled weight on there so that you can compare and set expectations appropriately regarding the modeled weights for the other styles

18/19:

The 18/19 set is 13.7 lbs lighter than a set of stock five hole wheels, despite being 1" wider front and rear.

17/18:

The 17/18 set is 8.4 lbs lighter than a set of stock (coupe style) 17/18 wheels, despite being 1" wider front and 1.5" rear.

Finish/Colors

Tons of options (more to come)

Love that look, before the group buy I was debating to strip my Titan 7s and do something similar…

It is a great look. I did a couple wheels that are similar. One is for me (no holes), the other is for a friend (w/holes).

Something like this in hyper black would be sweet as well.

Caveat weird lighting as always 😅

Jeez…..must resist. Saving for suspension bits…..but man, this is difficult to ignore….and they look so easy to keep clean.
A year on, I bought the suspension AND the wheels. Resistance was futile.🙄😁 Very satisfied with the results.

I was surprised by it too honestly. This is my 255/35/19 Pilot Sport 4S (same tire) on an identical spec wheel. Idk what could be causing the difference so welcome any ideas…

Those wheels are a sitting duck to life events. My fingers are tired after scrolling 105 pages. It seems the 17/18 community is very small. Is my math wrong when I see 19-20 lbs weight loss in unsprung weight going from a stock 18/19 teledial to a 17/18 Ekra brushed. Even less if I stick to a 9 inch wheel in the rear. I have A HISTORY OF RUBBING FENDER LINERS SO TOO MUCH of a flush fit is a major concern. I love feedback from folks about track .....
17/18 is where it's at. Its staggering how good the car feels on the road with the extra tire. It's no luxury car but it really lets you hit road imperfections without remorse. I think it looks better too, though I get that many people like the look of huge wheels, I like when there isn't a huge gap around the brakes and the meaty tires make it look like a sports car.

Mine are 17/18”. Your maths is reasonable. I’ve saved about 1kg/wheel over the standard 17/18” wheels. Much more if you compare them to 18/19” originals. They went 18/19” inch because their originals were 18/19” and they went that way for the look, nothing else.

Stock tire sizes? What are the dimensions of your wheels?

Originally on the new wheels I had 205/45 Michelin PSS on the front but found the sidewall height was a cm or two smaller than I was expecting which reduced front clearance too much for me. I went to 215/45x17 Continental Max Contacts in the front and 235/40x18 Conti SportContact6 at the rear. I wanted 245/40’s but can’t get them in SC6 or 7. The MC6 is comparable to the Michi PS4, while the SC6 feels more like the Michi PSS. I’ll probably end up with MC6 on the rear when the SC6 wear out simply through lack of choice. They are much cheaper than their Michelin counterparts.

Wheel sizes are; front: 7.5x17 et24, rear: 9x18 et25. I didn’t see the point of going any larger with tyre size I wanted to use. I’ve about -1.5 deg camber at the front, -2 deg at the rear.

At last. There is no upsides with low rubber profile, only exception are if one like the looks.

~22lbs lighter than the stock 18/19 Teledials for the 17/18 sets, yes. The 17/18 community is smaller than 18/19 but not really small. Probably 1/3rd of all the 4C wheels have been 17/18. There are some very heavy track users in that group as well and zero reports of rubbing.

Here are a couple that come to mind who I know track the car a lot on the 17/18s…

Plenty of guys track the car a lot on the 18/19s too and I haven’t heard about any rubbing from anyone.

It’s a happy day here in San Francisco! Got a message on April 23rd that “a label had been created” and all four wheels showed up today. Here is a preview of 18” in satin bronze. Will have to get off my butt and get tires and stems. These looks fantastic, @John4C. What an awesome, fun journey this has been! John, you are THE MAN!

Lovely fitment. Nice, safe clearance of the arches too. What‘s the camber on the front and rear?

About 2° rear, around 1°20’ / 1°30’ front. Front will be dialed up to almost the same as rear when time allows, the new GMS front arms took away some. I like a tad more rear camber for safety.

My focus was to keep rear rubber slightly wider than front, as this is my hypothesis for solving my tramlining issues.

The 245s is designed for 8.5” width, so slightly stretched, but agreed, look and feels OK, but not tested anywhere near limits yet.

Exactly the same camber as mine. I’ve made a recommendation to another Sydney member very similar to your specs; Front Et26 and rear Et30 with the same widths. The Cup2s are wider than some other road tyres of the same width so those offsets provide a little more clearance of the arches nor change handling characteristics as much.

We thought 28mm was max with regards to caliper clearance, but I think maybe even the 33mm OEM is doable in Tekla. Will measure. I suspect going closer to OEM will behave better on uneven surface, not getting the steering wheel getting ripped out of your hands, so maybe a better choice for most of “normal” users.

I had an unexpected package delivered today. Packaging was excellent and product is better than I could have expected. Wheels are extremely light. Oh double brushed gunmetal.

Received my satin matrix gold wheels yesterday! They look amazing. Thanks John for putting this together!

Edit: keep getting server error message and not all of the images are getting through. I will try again later.
