Insurance - LV

Hi All insuring their 4Cs in the UK; I've just received a letter from my insurer LV (Liverpool Victoria), to say they won't be able to cover the car at next renewal, for underwriting reasons. I know it's not personal(!) because I have other cars insured with them, so it must be the car. What could the reason be I wonder? Too many write offs?

Secondly, are there any recommendations for insurers? Who are you using? I'll be trying the usual comparison sites and maybe the owners' club insurer (Chris Knott?). I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. Thanks.

I too wasn’t able to insure my car with two companies in Australia while looking for quotes. I recommend looking for a specialist insurer. Mine is a limited use policy that I still pay a packet for. It works out to about $100/day of use. It’s excessive in my view but at least it’s insured.

Funnily enough I had a similar thing many years ago with my 147GTA; they'd been insuring it for 1.5 years then turned around and told me at renewal that their underwriter would no longer insure 147GTA's - but wouldn't say why. Only time I've ever had that in the dozens of cars I've owned!

Either way, I can recommend A-Plan, they insure my 4C for a reasonable price.

I'll try A-plan and have a look at any specialist that may not come up on comparison sites.
I am with Admiral now for the 4C. I have a multi car policy with them, and they have been very good over the years. I would recommend them.

My first year with the 4C was with LV and I paid £536. The next year I moved to Admiral as it was significantly cheaper, and I included the 4C on the multicar policy. The price with Admiral has crept up and I paid ca. £520 this year, whilst my 939 Spider is about £400.

You pay a little less than $1,000 AUD for comprehensive insurance? Incredible! I’ve a 30+ year clean record for speeding fines and road accidents (where I or my wife have been at fault) and still they charge exorbitantly.
OK thanks for the replies all, I'll give Admiral a try too in a few days (when I'm close enough to renewal date).

That's interesting. My 4C is currently insured with LV. I wonder if they will offer a renewal in November when it is due? Their premium was competitive at the last renewal and that was only 4 months ago.

I thought it was quite expensive! What are you paying in Oz?

I'm with Elephant and paying £282 a year, seems cheap doesn't it?
@Alfanut :p
For reference, I payed £498 this year with A-Plan; aged 41 with clean licence/history and in a good area (also includes exhaust mods). 5k/year mileage and garaged.
Interestingly I was told that it's more expensive if you garage a car rather than driveway....guess that's due to the risk of someone at home damaging it while working in the garage?

I hadn't heard that. I'd always thought a locked garage would make for cheaper insurance.

Definitely cheaper if in a locked garage in my part of the world.
Just had an email from LV…they are unable to offer me a renewal this year 🤷‍♂️

I think they meant ‘unwilling’ , not ‘unable’. What, they’ve lost the ability to accept funds from your bank account, have they?

Elephant have sent my renewal, I asked why its gone up she said 'cost of living'

£268 is a pretty good rate for a high performance, potentially hard to repair car. It's annoying that you have to phone them to get a better rate, though.
As mentioned above, I'm paying £520 with Admiral, including European breakdown cover and legal cover.

No it's going to be £400, still ok I suppose but last year was £288. I don't mind but when they creep upwards it never comes back down.
