Quiet exhaust options?

1136 Views 41 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  Rabid Atoms
I think I go against the grain here, and prefer quieter exhausts over louder ones. The Race exhaust drives me nuts and I have to wear noise cancelling earbuds when on a drive of any length. What are my options for quieter systems?

1. The factory sport (non-Race) exhaust is said to be quieter.
2. The Novitec is valved with a quieter mode, but I can't find it for sale in the U.S.
3. The Quicksilver appears to be valved as well, but I can't discern if it is quiet and loud, or loud and louder 😄

Any other options I've missed?

I own both the standard and the race exhausts.
Here’s my experience and opinion.

The car came with the standard option, and to my liking it was boring for a car like the 4C, so i got the race version.
To my surprise the sound of the race version is better when i wanted it to be. It’s louder at lower speeds and more quiet at higher speeds. Actually the standard version is louder than the race version at around 130+ kph. It’s “boomy” and resonates a lot, probably because of the carbon tub. For me, the race version it’s much better at cruising speed.
The race exhaust totally transformed the 4C experience for me, and it gives me the feel that i am on a racing car, and being a motorsport fan, it’s a big plus 😊

That's interesting, I forget what the race exhaust was like at higher speed, I just didn't like the loudness at village/town speeds.

I must admit, after a weekend of watching classic cars at Spa, with their straight through exhausts, my 4C with standard exhaust felt a bit quiet and tame when I drove home

Would be nice if we'd be able to listen to all of them. Design of the (inside of the) muffler defines the sound. I find the race factory (apart from being way too loud for my liking, opening post could have been mine) also to sound like an old car with broken exhaust. Which in fact is true: short pipe, no muffler.
How different eg from a Yamaha R1 or Kawasaki Z1000 with eg Akraprovic, who sound dark and melodious. My Giulietta QV also sounds dark at low revs and higher pitched at higher revs. Would love such sound in the 4C as well

And only because you are special.....:p:p (forgotten how dumb this clip was)

There was not much consistency with the throttle applications to really have a fair comparison. Was the Quicksilver Sport the one with the Helmholtz resonance chamber or the Supersport without the drone cancelling? They all sound nice to my ear. It‘s the drone that does my head in.

Those recommending the MagnaFlow—not sure if serious… mine is loud as hell, even before the EC Phase 2.

I have a race exhaust and I think its a bit quiet.
Im not sure if the standard downpipe that I have quiets it up, I dont remember the differences.
How quiet do you guys want this car?
Its a quiet car compared to a horsepower car with an exhaust/headers.

Yep, i love Supersprints. Quality product! Shame they do'nt have a homologation ...(or do they???)Is it legal in Italy to drive with it?
No, it doesn't have homologation but I'm not worried when I'm on the road: surely the Oem racing exhaust would attract (with its "homologated" decibels) the attention of 👮‍♂️
my Supersprint doesn't. I've already been stopped twice: policemen curious to see the 4C up close 😄👌🏻

The 4C spider with race exhaust is way louder than my old 997.2 Porsche 911 C4S with stock exhaust. I'm not looking for a quiet highway cruiser, but id like to not get hearing damage either.

A little late to this post bread.
Yep as stated ‘against the grain’ from first post
Never thought I will see a title quiet exhaust for the 4c😳

Aren't those fairly quiet with the stock exhaust?
idk.
I just dont think the 4C is all that loud.
Subjective of course.
Hardly the thing that wakes up neighbors and the dead in the night.
I dont think some of you really know what a "loud" car is....
And no, I dont like obnoxiously loud cars or bikes either, but come on....
Just choose an exhaust that kills the drone. You can still have loud without it, but it won’t seem loud inside unless you crack open the windows and give it a boot-full. It can be done and has been done.
This is my choice

I had the factory sport exhaust and changed to the Magnaflow and love it - not that costly and very free flowing .

That's your spider (y)
