best radar shield

Something I'd like to point out as someone in law enforcement, and has made in excess of 1000 traffic stops using radar/laser (many, many warnings in there ;) )

Part of running traffic while using either radar or laser is visually estimating the speed of the vehicle, the radar/laser is used only to confirm my visual estimation.

For example, if I see you driving at a high rate of speed, 80 in a 55, I make my visual estimation of your speed based on my prior training and experience. I then turn on/activate my radar and get the first blip at say 81 mph, your radar goes off, you slam on the brakes, front of your car dips, and my radar suddenly shows 70, 67, 65, 60mph etc.. I can still write that citation at the initial 81 mph and I have many times.

Basically, you can spend anywhere from $80-1000 and nothing will guarantee that you'll save money or avoid getting stopped.
Thanks Ryan for sharing this insight. The best protection I have had for instant-on laser and radar units, is to always have another car in front of you. Officer Ryan activates his radar unit targeting the car in front of you and your unit picks up the ping. The good news is there is always someone out there who will want to race the 4c and in this case being 2nd you actually "win" ;-) Have fun and be safe.

Well I can now give you what I found out. The Radenso PRO M is in the 4C, the Uniden R3 is in the Evora 400, and the newest version of the V1 is in the 430. Just for kicks I put a Whistler CR95 in the 911, just to see how it worked against the more expensive units. The V1 had the most faults, the Radenso had by far the best range, the Uniden was a little better then the V1 and the Whistler unit did not fall that far behind. This was done with all units on highway mode.

Does your V1 have the newest junk fighter firmware update? None of the others have the arrows, correct?

I have a V1 that I’ve been meaning to send back to Valentine for a software update for a while. It’s likely 7-10 years old now. Used it a while back and it would alarm constantly, I think maybe picking up the radar modern cars use now for blind spot monitoring? Does your updated V1 seem to filter these out or do you feel that it also picks up too much?

It definitely helps but doesn't eliminate them. I haven't found a detector that offers the arrows at a price I am willing to pay that does better than the V1. For me the arrows are a must have.

The upgrade isn't that much and they check it all over to make sure you are good to go. I've had mine for over 10 years and it's been sent in for several upgrades and repairs to keep it current and working. The service has been outstanding.

Hello folks,
Have Spider coming soon. Love to drive fast and don’t have opportunity to track. I have always used the Escort 360, reliable and they also guarantee to pay your first 2 tickets. However, having to suction cup that thing to the windshield with the power cord running all the way from the back console to the windshield just seems ugly and wrong.
Does anyone have an updated review of the latest and greatest out there that can be hardwired?

thanks a lot,
Max

These posts have me longing for the good ol' days. All we in Oz can have is an accurate GPS and hope for the best. Bumping this in the hope of a positive response for a hardwired detector.

some good tips in the thread below:

Get a Uniden radar detector along with a suction cup mount.

Hardwire it like how I did my dash cam.

All my Cannonballer friends swear by Uniden for their detection range.
I definitely like the Uniden radar. The suction cup/having it on dash doesn’t bother you?
Also, read that Uniden was about to come out with some badass system soon, but seems to be stuck in development.

Thanks a lot will check this out.
