6 years and 8 days ago I made my introduction post excited as hell that my 4c arrived after years of coveting one. That enjoyment for the car is still 95% here today as I write this. What an absolutely enjoyable machine. The fun adventures never stopped and the smiles only grew bigger. For anyone even remotely on the edge of buying one of these cars, please do, you will not regret your decision.

Initially I thought this was a forever car. My mind in that fact alone hasn't changed. But as someone who has 4 cars already and a 5th now on the way making my wife park outside for a third "special" non daily-able car seemed like a bit much. Honestly, what bugged me the most was servicing so many cars and keeping them all up to par. First world problems for sure, but it always got to me more than one would think.

I've replaced the 4c with a 600LT spider which I'm very excited about but very concerned with maintenance wise so wish me luck there.

Tonight is the 4c's last drive and I know I will miss the car dearly. It had no faults and did everything I ever asked of it. Thank you all for the wealth of information on this forum. Every single day I checked this website to see what's new and i really enjoyed that. So again, thank you all, its been more than delightful being a part of a true car group. I have a couple items I'm going to sell, (Wheel spacers 15/25mm and GMS front ball joints) if anyone wants a head start on them before I post.

It's a big thing to do, maybe we should all rent other supercars first for a week or so before making the decision. I think the 4C is such a safe bet and good value, but we all think about the other side from time to time. Perversely I hadn't even sat in a 4C and bought mine over the phone :ROFLMAO::p so I can't talk.
Its solid advice, in my short life I have only owned 6 different cars, but I have never test drove any of them before purchase and I have always come out a happy camper.

Good on you to press the issue with McLaren and get the facts before it was too late.
Obviously, the dealer is hoping for a less savvy victim, er, "client".
P.T. Barnum was probably right, but that sucker wasn't you.
It's still a bummer, but it obviously wasn't meant to be. The universe kept telling you so until you finally listened. :)

It's no small consolation that the car you are left with is still pretty dang amazing.
And you get to still legitimately hang out with all of us. ;)
OK, that last part may not be the incentive that I was feeling it to be. :D
But still, I'm, going to say "Congratulations on getting to keep the Alfa".
And may you have many, many more great years with her!!!

I will change the thread title to add a "not" or something, if you don't mind. There's good information for others here.

Update...

Well folks in very strange sequence of events no McLaren and Alfa stays.

For those interested in the story... Put the deposit down on a Saturday agreed on price no problem. The BIGGEST draw to this particular car was it is a 100 mile car with 1.5 years of warranty left on it and 50 min from where I live. They gave me a really solid trade in on the alfa so how could I not buy it. (honestly don't like red, but everything else about the car was perfect) The warranty was worth big money to me because McLaren. So I paid up for the car and said F it, I want it.

I reach out to McLaren to confirm the warranty and sure enough it expired 11 months ago. The car was purchased by the first owner in January 2022, however technically the dealer "bought" it in 2019 and punched the warranty card. The reason why is McLaren was throwing money at the dealers to "buy" them and mark them as "sold" because it looks good for McLaren's sales numbers.

Well, that means I can get a McLaren extended warranty for two years at $7,300. That's a good chunk and kind of defeats the original purpose of paying up for the car, but I say F it again for the second time and start making appointments to get the car into McLaren for an inspection and warranty approval.

Then, from the U.K, i get a call from the "McLaren Global account manager for warranty administration." She mentions this car has had one service in its lifetime back in 2021 and for those reasons cannot offer me a warranty of any kind and the Vin number is flagged for that reason.

I said F it twice and I cant do it a third time. If this was a Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, etc... i wouldn't even of asked about the warranty, but in the McLaren world of 30k transmissions and 60k engines without labor I will pass.

So the Alfa lives on. I apologize for the drama and waste of a post. Honestly sat in a parking lot last night staring at the alfa in tears. I really am not sure if I can get rid of this car.

Thank you all and I'll continue to be here, delete thread if needed.
The stars seemed to aligned on this for you. I think we are all happy to see you stay with the Alfa, you seem very passionate about it based on your confession on crying just at the thought of leaving it.

Have you considered a 570s? Seems like a cheaper buy and you could factor in keeping the 4C if you were to buy one.

This is a great story - thanks for sharing.
They are beautiful, I just think it's telling that McLaren has so little faith in their cars that they wouldn't accept $7500 for a 2 year warranty on car with only 150 miles on it--even after a factory inspection........

I was thinking the same thing, how many times would they expect a 150 mile car to have been serviced? Even McLaren is afraid of a McLaren

What a crazy story

And I thought the Writers' Strike meant no stories with that many twists and turns for a while

I’ve heard awful things about McLaren. Shmee was saying that they build two quality of cars. Production cars and premium cars. The premium cars are as you would expect. The customer service for buyers of those cars is amazing too. They will rush to provide you with a loaner and sort even the smallest issue asap.
With the production cars, things are held on with double sided tape that loses is stick and they aren’t helpful when those buyers complain. He said they were actually rude. I will never even consider one. Lotus all the way if I felt like buying British.
I’m glad this happened Tex :D

I wouldn't go the 570 route, to old of a car for me at this point. If I come across a 600lt I believe the alfa would be staying at this point. I got a solid trade in number and in that literal 45 second phone call the car was gone and I think i got ahead of myself.

I agree with you all, for a 100 mile car, McLaren has no faith in their own products. I somewhat understand the perspective, a car that had one service to in in over 4 years is concerning, but as long as its gone through and up to date, how is it not good to go? I just feel very lucky this all happened right before I was about to buy the car not after. It's simply ironic. I placed the deposit on Saturday and told him I'd pick it up Friday simply because of work.

Either way I think I need to scratch that Mclaren itch, maybe it will be later this year or in 5 or 10 years.

That's crazy! I hope you find your dream McLaren soon (assuming that you will be in the market again sometime).

I had similar experiences with two McLarens several years ago.

One in particular... the day I went to pick it up from the dealer, the car started making this crazy beeping noise as it was getting pulled out of the garage to the parking lot. No one could figure it out. I got so spooked and had to back out of the deal (getting a refund from the dealer was so painful)!

But I would like to own one someday... Waiting for the price of 720S to come down now that 750S is out...

I recently cancelled plans for swimming pool so I sort of know how you feel. I promised my daughters an indoor pool nearly 3 years ago and it took that long and £30k in professional fees to get it past planning, heritage, conservation and the forestry commission. In those 3 years the cost of building anything has gone up 50% and energy costs to heat it has gone up 150%. I was given a figure of £45k per year just for heating.
The best quote for the build itself was over £600k, twice the budget I had set originally. There’s no way to reduce that either because local planning committee won’t approve anything less than an architectural masterpiece.
So, no pool. We are having a Roman bath and sauna in the converted cellars and that will do.

Point is, the instant I came to this conclusion, I knew I had dodged a bullet. I could have done it and seriously regretted it but I came to my senses in time thank god.

So we all just learned MClaren won't support their product lines...On a car with 100 miles that sat in a showroom...total copout..from a brand proabaly mired in warranty claims....get them to take 20K off and get an aftermarket warranty of put the money aside for the just in case....be your own warranty.

Councils are a nightmare, we're converting an old barn at the moment, had to jump through lots of hoops, each one costly. The huge long back walk is foot out of plumb, we were not allowed to rebuild it, so had to pay £20k on a steel portal frame inside, each time we dig a trench an archaeological chap comes with his flask to sit and watch, about £400 a day. Nothing is ever in the trenches. ! Don't mention tree roots 😧 and tpo's

Yep we have had to do archeological investigations, tree root investigations and the like. They accepted photos of trenches and we dug them with my own digger so could of been worse. Goes without saying, there were no Viking gold coins or bronze swords!
Look forward to pictures of your place now!
I saw a comparison chart between McLaren / Ferrari / Aston Martin / Porsche on Instagram that someone compiled. Both AM & McLaren are averaging a 5 digit loss on every car sold and Ferrari and Porsche are averaging 5 digit gains, with Ferrari not surprisingly the strongest of the brands. With the low volume that McLaren sells each year coupled with their losses, it will be interesting to see how long they are able to stay funded and in business. AM at least has more volume with the DBX, but their days sadly seem numbered as well.

If McLaren can make all of their cars reliable and change the public's perception, they will have a chance. When you're advised by numerous people not to buy a McLaren without a warranty, it's a brand image problem. The 4C is a budget supercar on a sports car budget. I'd go with a Ferrari 458 for a N/A mid-engined complementary exotic. A nicely spec'd 458 will hold its value and provide you with a relatively lower maintenance gateway into a supercar from Maranello. Or go with a special edition Gallardo or Huracan to change it up.

Nah, it’s fraud. They are tax dodgers and crooks declaring bs loses. Ferrari doesn’t because they are owned by the Italian gov, who collect the taxes.
My family owned restaurants so trust me, I know about waste, spoilage, family employees and lots of other ways to write off taxable profits
