I have always had my tow hook screwed onnwhile running on track, but I have been thinking what if I hit the front bumper to tire wall sliding sideway? Will the tow hook cause more damage as it is connect to the sub frame?

That’s like saying should I wear a seatbelt as sometimes it’s better without wearing them.
Also a bit like I’m going tracking, should I take some parts off my car in case I wreck it so those parts won’t have to be replaced?

And if you hit a tire wall sliding sideways you’re probably going to need to be towed back. And if you don’t have it screwed in you probably won’t be able to that after the front end damage. Which means that the tow truck will probably damage your car elsewhere getting it back.
And there’s no place to really store it unless you put in the trunk but what if you damage the car in the rear and it can’t open. Or what if you are injured? No one will know where it is stored or certain where it goes. Plus do you really want to be that guy who delays everyone else because your cars is not ready to be towed back?

Two times I have had to be towed.
I ran out of gas once and then once fairly recently I clipped a weird curb and damaged my car had to be towed and they put my car on a flatbed pulling in by the installed tow hook. Can’t imagine how I would’ve got towed back without any damage if I did not have the hook in. They would have had to pull and drag it by the wheel spokes, not a good thing!

Put your tow hook on, concentrate on your driving and think positive.......

If you are concerned about damage, take something else to the track, or buy track insurance.....

So I was thinking maybe I should use a tow strap. To have the bolt screwed on to the tow eye of the sub frame, the only part sticking out is the strap. Will report back once I get that done
