I am very interested in owning the new Alfa Romeo 4C.

I would like to state that I am a huge Alfa Romeo fan and am very excited about the reintroduction of the brand into the US and the launch of the new Alfa Romeo 4C!

However, I am very disappointed with the headlights chosen for the production model.

Apparently, I am not alone as manifested by the overwhelming concurrence online - please see the numerous recent references below.

These headlights are, to be blunt, a show-stopper for me.

Alfa Romeo, please take the appropriate action and revert back to the 4C Concept headlights prior to the planned US launch at the LA Auto Show in November this year.

The online consensus regarding the new 4C headlights is real! - please look at the links below:

My description of the problem on the 4c-forums.com forum:

I was just reading about 50 years of the 911 history. The reason why I mention this is that the 911 used to be a very simple lightweight car. I see a lot of that in the 4C. As much as I love the original lights, I would swap them out for the current ones just to save a few lbs. To each his own I guess. Cheers.

I get why they've done it, but why did they need to look like genital warts?
Agreed!

It is not as if these headlights are slightly odd or unattractive - they are hideously ugly.

There is nothing sleek and beautiful about them - they are lumpy, bumpy and alien!

They look like pimples on the face of what is otherwise obviously beautiful.

These headlights completely destroy the flowing design lines on the hood of this vehicle.

If this due to an economical decision, it did not have to result in something this ugly.

If this due to a weight conservation decision, it did not have to result in something this ugly.

There is nothing elegant about these headlights!

Damn - how could this ever been approved by Alfa?!? - how did this ever get to the other side of an Italian design process?!? - who looked at this and said "This is outstanding! Our customers will love this!"?!?

Here is an example of a well executed, lightweight, inexpensive, somewhat attractive headlight (1st generation) found on a Lotus Elise:

Here is the improved 2nd generation headlight found on the Lotus Elise:

Here is the atrocity commited by Alfa Romeo on their 4C:

Here is the 4C concept headlight Alfa Romeo elected not to use!:

You might hate them....and the designer doesn't love them either...but at the end of the day the market decides. Have you seen the car in person? Go do that and you might change your mind at least a little bit. They are not bad at all with the carbon surround.

None of the lights that the Fiat Group have fitted in the 4C in terms of styling and in terms of space behind.... So they had 2 choices, either spend a ton of money to design custom lights or get something off the shelf like they did. Obviously if they had to design new lights it would have either increased the cost of the car or have Alfa lose money on this car.

No point in comparing it to Lotus....as Lotus has always lost money!

deppi0 - I hear what you are saying but, if this due to an economical decision, it did not have to result in something this ugly.

I'm kind of over people biartching about the headlights. Yes, I didn't like them at first and thought AR had gone batty, but I got over it. People who went to Geneva said they didn't look nearly as bad in person. Remember, you don't have to buy the car :p

However, if you wish to discuss headlights, how about the abomination on the Ferrari 458? They are terrible, but you don't hear many people complain about them.. Just saying.

You are correct - those headlights are worse! - what the hell was Ferrari thinking?!?

Perhaps we now know why Alfa Romeo thought these headlights would work!

BTW - many people are complaining - read the start of this thread and Google "Alfa Romeo 4C headlights".

Alfa the head lites are one of the reason I wanted to buy a 4C LE, they are totally unique in the automotive world, polished carbon fibre, fabulous, they will all be trying to copy this, you see, makes the 4C even more individual.

having seen them on the car at Goodwood in UK, I think the lights look very striking and expensive, indeed they use LED technology on the LE cars which is leading edge (for both headlights and DRLs)
Of more concern are the door mirrors off a Fiat 500/Punto - these don't look the part at all - although at least they are big enough to give an improved view behind

I agree. When I saw it a few weeks ago I didn't mind the lights so much. But the mirrors struck me more, in a bit of negative way.
