Been looking at local Celtic Tuning distributor which are offering a ECU tune and now also say they have TCU software to remove torque limiters from the transmission.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Would value any input Thanks

I have never heard of this particular vendor and I know that if there was anyone out there that removed the restrictions on the TCU everyone would be interested and talking about it. Its the one piece of the puzzle everyone wants to improve upon..To my knowledge no one's been able to crack the TCU yet. Please keep us in the loop what you find out about this.

Hi 25trbo, I just had a look at their website. Where did you see the bit about removing the transmission torque limiter for the 4C? I saw something regarding a BMW but not the 4C. Then again, I suffer from male blindness, that is, I have on occasion an inability to see something staring me in the face. That said, I did see where they state they can remove the rev limiter. Um, I’d be avoiding this little feature. I was bouncing off the rev limiter a couple of times during my skid-pan session a couple of weeks ago. No rev limiter would probably have lead to a damaging over rev.

It looks like they do remapping, not tuned clones, though I could be wrong. This would mean using your own 4Cs’ ecu. I prefer the Alfaworks/Eurocompulsion/Pogea etc. position of providing their tune on a separate (clone) ecu.

Their torque claim of 287ft-lbs for their Stage1 tune, just shy of 390Nm, is about 30Nm down on the Alfaworks Stage 1 claim of 420Nm (probably under ideal conditions).

If they have further 4C tunes could you please point me in the right direction.

Hi Jim, The local guy in Sydney said they have just finalised the TCU for the 4C and a different stage of tune to what they show on there website for Celtic Tuning so maybe they are still waiting to update the site or maybe its just BS. Ill pm you the business making the claims, he is also stating that they are 290hp now.

Celtic Tuning are headquartered in southwest England, have been around for years, and are well-known in the UK. They have a good reputation as a "generalist tuner". They cover a lot of brands. Think they sell in about ~20 countries worldwide now. Like most generalist tuners, they have a rep for delivering "middle of the road" remaps -- they are never the slowest and never the fastest, but they "play it safe" and don't go mad on the turbo boost, etc.

Looking at the real-world 0-60 and 1/4 mile times for the 4C posted on this forum, here, the Alfaworks ECU tune (also in the UK) is arguably top of the tree. That's consistent with other car brands where modding is popular, like Audi or Ford -- the "specialist tuners" dedicated to one or two marques spend more time on one model to squeeze out the most power.

Short version (for the Alfa 4C):

Celtic Tuning = good.
Alfaworks = very good.

Im sure Alfaworks is top notch and probably better that Celtic but not local and exchange rates and new taxes on imports make this much more expensive option.
Thanks for your input :grin2:

Fair enough. Cash is always king.

Does Alfaworks have an Aussie (or NZ) distributor?

The chap who owns it might be a Neighbours fan and give a price adjustment for the Aussie dollar / GBP fluctuations. Don't ask, don't get, etc.
