Paint codes

Can anyone here share a paint code chart for the 4C? Specifically, I am interested in the code(s) for the red choices. I seem to remember two; Rosso, and Rosso Compitizione. Through the years of 4C production, were all the Rosso cars the same code, or did Alfa vary the shade? Also, were these colors (codes) the same for the Giulia / Stelvio reds? Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. According to the link that you supplied, the paint codes that are listed for Rosso Compitizione and (plain) Rosso are different for the 4C, compared to the Giulia / Stelvio. Is this correct? Also, Through all the years of 4C production, are all the Rosso, or Rosso Comp. cars the same code?

I haven’t been able to spot any difference in Rosso Alfa throughout the years and I’ve seen them from 2015 to 2019. I’ve seen a 2016 Rosso Comp Spider and a 2018 Rosso Comp Coupe and can’t tell the difference. Why the interest? Yes, Off-hand Rosso Comp in 8C, 4C and Giulia are different but in Oz I’m unlikely to see all three side by side to tell what the difference actually is. There was a change in paint manufacturer but I can’t remember when that occurred. @John4C likely has that detail. I tend not to retain memory of stuff that is irrelevant to me.

@tibby , thanks for the chart. It seems that the chart only shows Rosso Comp colors. It seems that there are several (4-5?) codes for the same color. Why? Do they actually look different?

I am more interested in the Rosso color, and if there are variations in that color, through the 4C production years. @Alfanut , the reason for my interest is that I am soon painting a 74 GTV project. Originally a red car; probably code 501. It has been (re)painted twice and each time it got brighter red; more orange(?), like Coke red. I can see (compare) the original red to the repaint reds, and the original is noticeably darker-deeper red. More like blood. Years ago I parked next to a Rosso 4C and made some comparisons. I remember thinking that this was the red that I wanted. I have no idea what year the 4C was, and want to make sure that I choose the correct code. Hence my inquiry. Thanks to everyone for their help.

Thank you everyone for the replies. @TerenceS , I am well aware that there are two different choices for a "red" paint for the 4C, Giulia, and Stelvio. One is ROSSO, one is ROSSO COMPETIZIONE. I am only concerned with the ROSSO choice.

Looking at the chart in post #8, I see TWO different Rosso codes for the 4C. 2015-2018 use 289A, but the 2019 4C Spider changes to 414C. Is it really a different shade of Rosso, or just Alfa, being Alfa... Also, on the chart, on the far right under the BASF header, it shows 414C being a metallic paint. Is this correct? I don't think so. My understanding is that all the Rosso cars have no metallic, while the Rosso Comp cars obviously do have metallic.

As for the variations of RC, I don't think two cars are exactly the same. I have seen two Quads parked next to each other and they seem slightly different. All about the angle, perhaps. Good luck matching a single panel is painting is required.

I was simply trying to help by giving a real life data point that the RC (Rosso Competizione) colors also vary between models.

That being said, it’s better that you are looking at Rosso, as it’s not a dual color paint like RC (four levels if you include primer and clear coat).

Can we call it by the real name. It is “Rosso Alfa”.
As opposed to “Rosso Competizione”.
“Rosso” alone is simply the masculine form of “red”.

Great charts, @tibby . Much more info there than I’ve seen before. Would you have access to these for the other colours? I’ll add the links to the Technical Reference thread if you do.

My window sticker says "Rosso Competizione Tri-Coat Red Exterior Paint" so I will continue to call it that since that is what Alfa Romeo thinks it's real name is. Alfa Rosso is the one stage paint that is much more common. Hopefully this objective information is acceptable to the forum and it's admins.

Koshi double and triple checked when they color matched a custom engine cover I commissioned.

They sent me this first and were like, “Are you sure?”

And then sent me what they used for Rosso…

I think 289A was the correct choice ;)

There seems to be an error in these charts. It relates to the end dates for each colour.

As pointed out by John4C, Bianco Madreperla formulation changed to Trofeo but the name remained. Similarly with The Bassalt grey changing (also in name?) to Vesuvio. Yet these show both colours continuing to 2024. Carrara White was discontinued in 2016 or so, not 2024. But I like the chart otherwise. Haven’t checked the data against other sources though.
