Next weekend is the annual Bathurst 12Hour for GT3 and 4 cars. I was having a look through the list of entrants to find not a single Ferrari entered. A huge disappointment. Last year you couldn’t hear ‘em (even though a 488 won), this year you won’t see ‘em and it won’t be for the dust. If race teams can’t afford to run them how do they think that will translate to owners running them while there are plenty of Lambos, Audis, BMs and Mercs being entered by private teams? A very shortsighted, lack of effort by Ferrari.
It’ll still be worth the effort to go just to hear the howling V10s of the Lambos and R8s.
I’m ever hopeful of one day seeing that mythical Alfa 6C entered.
I’ll be driving the 4C up and back on Saturday to view practice and qualifying.

Was the effort factory Ferrari supported last year or Australian team with Australian support only? I suspect that Fiat may be evaluating what series they will run this year. They are going to have both Ferrari and ALFA running F1 this year and are talking about running Indy Series here in the US ...don't ask me why though ;-) Probably from a financial standpoint they have to figure where to get the most bang for the money.

Maranello Motorsport was the winning team last year with their 488. They are a private team who ran a factory prepped car. The 12Hour needs to become the first round of the Australian GT3 Championship as well as part of an international GT3 endurance series. As it stands, round 1 of the local GT3 series happens at the Australian F1 GP in March.

The only Ferrari racing today was black 308GTB in the historic sports car support race category. Enthusiastic owners turned up though, with several cars being displayed. A lovely non-replica C-Type Jag was present as well. A piss-poor effort by Ferrari this weekend. Enzo would be turning in his grave. After all, the only reason he sold cars to the public in the first place was to finance his racing.
It was nice to sit by the track and soak up the atmosphere. TV doesn’t do the howl of the V10s justice. Glorious. Audi, McLaren, Lamborghini, Mercedes , BMW, Porsche and Bentley have all turned up in strength. So life goes on without you, Ferrari. I hope some of you can get to watch at least part of the race. We are currently +11h UTC and the race starts here at 5:45am Sunday. I guess that’s somewhere between 10:45am Sat for LA and 4:45pm Sat in the UK, I think. Worth the watch. It is being live-streamed.
