Thanks for the updates, Philster.

I just got my first CEL due to transmission yesterday on my LE. Driving in manual dynamic mode --> car kicked into Neutral --> transmission-related dashboard lights, etc. As I was pulling onto a shoulder I was able to get the car back into gear. CEL was gone after the first restart and I was able to get home (also in manual dynamic mode). I thought the car shifted abnormally once after I restarted driving but was fine after that. Will now try to schedule a reflash at my friendly neighborhood dealer now.

Thank you in advance.

Sure: 2015 LE, about 7700 miles, no modifications.
I've had the car for about four months and 4000 miles, the car is garaged and have not been on the track under my ownership. That's the first issue with the transmission I had.
Also, while I had it, the car's been washed twice: once by a detailer using a powerwasher about 3 months ago, and once by me using two buckets and plenty of towels in the engine bay to soak up whatever water seeps through during the wash about a month ago.

Reading this thread last night, brought me bad luck.
...
@QUADRIFOGLIO VERDE I am curious: which part of the country are you in? Also, how old is your battery (mine is original as far as I know)? It is a bit surprising that the three of us started having issues around the same time... I wonder if it is related to temperatures dropping. Philster indicated that his battery is in a good shape, but his issue is also a little less transient than ours.

2015's have no moisture shield over the TCM and have the oldest software.

It's important to work the problem and eliminate variables. Fight the common, most likely and cheapest battles first.

2015 = go after TCM reflash, fight water intrusion, ensure clean connections everywhere.

Ultimately, the TCM hardware and connections might be the issue, and replacing the TCM might be needed.

Further the TCM could be fine, and it did it's job by calling out a mechanical issue within the transmission.

(My problem was in 80F weather, low humidity and the end of an hour-long drive)

Those who got the recent TCM reflash - can you please post up your system software?

I'll go as a reference for a "2018" I captured from AlfaOBD.

Tested device: Automatic gearbox Marelli DDCT C635
Hardware number: CFC 8TDW.01
Hardware version: 00
Software number: UF14M080
Software version: 0000
Programming date: 21/07/17

Curious if there are newer software versions that owners of more recent models should look out for

I believe this is it, but I do not have software versions on hand

EDIT -- I referenced CFC8TDW.01-00-UF-14M080 at dealer to point them in right direction. Had the screenshot from these forums on my phone, and used a screenshot to reference the moisture shield, too.

100miles/160km into update..... so far, so good. Mix of Auto and Manual in N and D modes to let the computer do some learnin'.***

Expecting 250 miles this weekend, and wish my confidence level was high. Just unnerving to feel like "CEL" and being thrown in Neutral can pop up like a monster at a very bad time.

In a small car, it's borderline terrifying.

***For the love of the car gods, people, how do any of you drive this car in automatic mode?

What is automatic mode?

Hello everyone. My turn to ask for everyone's input/help (I hope "AlfaRomeoCare" is listening).

My car is a 2015 LE with 6,800 miles. It is never driven in the rain and is stored inside (I live in CA); has had all recommended services including bolt re-tightening (11/2019) and the timing belt and water pump were replaced this month (9/2021).

I was driving on a track going through the gears manually in Dynamic Mode when right after I shifted to 3rd I feel a pop and the transmission goes into neutral and a message appears on the instrument screen that reads something like "Dynamic Mode not Available At This Time." and the Check Engine Light comes on. I don't recall if the screen's message stated Race Mode was also not available. I coast off the track and try to put it into gear, which it won't. I shut off the engine, pull the key out and wait 15 seconds before I restart it. It goes into gear but will not allow me to access Dynamic or Race mode. I drive onto the track and manually and gently go through 1, 2 and 3 gears. I switched to Auto mode and it shifted for me as it is supposed to.

Back in the paddock we plug in the diagnostic code reader and Code P1CC0 appears with some note about a transmission pump. I call the US Alfa Romeo Customer Service number and they have no technical support or answers (very nice lady). I call the dealer, they do some checking in their own shop, and come back with the same general answer about a transmission pump, and need the car in the shop before they will engage the factory techs.
By the way, the car had not been washed in a very long time before I went to the track, so I am assuming the water issue mentioned in this thread is not a factor (naive of me?). I also drove it 30 miles home in traffic and it behaved fine, except the CEL is still on (never went off) and Dynamic and Race Modes are still not available.

Please let me know what you all think.

As a side note, the transmission switching itself into neutral is a bad default when you're on the gas hauling "you know what".

@davenorcal

2015 models need trans control module reflash and water protection to eliminate the two biggest (but not the only) variables. Other codes less directly tied to this would prompt you to chase other variables. At this time, you might have an actual hardware (pump) problem and not a software issue.

If you read this thread thinking it is about water, it is not. Water/moisture was identified as another variable that could stop the TCM from working or losing contact with the rest of the electronics.

You're justifying why you don't need to worry about moisture, so you've reduced yourself to one variable: the reflash of the TCM. The link below is from this thread and is about the specific reflash that is wise to get:

You realize that you just linked to this same thread - intentional???
